আমি বৃক্ষ বলছি । আমার বয়স প্রায় ৩০ বছর। আমাকে যে লালন পালন করতেন তিনি ১০ বছর আগে এক দূর্ঘটনায় মারা যান। এরপর থেকেই অযত্নে বড় হচ্ছি আমি। কষ্টে-সৃষ্টে আমার দিন চলে যায়, খুব কান্না পায়। এখন বিশ বছর আগের পৃথিবীর কথা বলি, তখন আমার বয়স সবেমাত্র দশ। কী সুন্দর ছিল এই পৃথিবী। সবুজ গাছে ভরা ছিল। মানুষও ছিল খুব ভালো। তাদের সাথে গাছ-গাছালির খুব ভালো বন্ধন ছিল। কিন্তু এখন তো এসব কিছুই দেখা যায় না। উল্টো মানুষ ধ্বংস করছে আমাদের ধ্বংস করছে পৃথিবী। আগে আমার পাখি বন্ধুরা আমার সাথে গল্প করত। অনেক ভালো সময় কাটতো আমাদের। কিন্তু এখন তারা অনেকেই আসে না। তারা বিলুপ্ত হয়ে গেছে।
আমি বৃক্ষ বলছি । আমি এখন একা বোধ করি। আমার কিছু গাছ বন্ধুকে কেটে নিয়ে গেছে খারাপ মানুষেরা। তারা কী বোঝে না, আমরা বৃক্ষরা তাদের কত উপকার করি? অক্সিজেন দেই, ফুল-ফল দেই, ছায়া দেই। আরো কত কী! আমাদের কিছু প্রজাতির গাছ থেকে তোমরা ঔষধ পাও। যা তোমাদের অসুখ থেকে সেরে ওঠতে সাহায্য করে। অনেক উদ্ভিদকে তোমরা খাদ্য হিসেবে গ্রহণ করো যেমন- লাল শাক, পালন শাক ইত্যাদি। তোমাদের ঘর-বাড়ি, আসবাব তৈরির জন্য তোমরা আমাদের কাছ থেকে কাঠি পাও। এমনকি যেখানে আদ্রিতার লেখাটি ছেপেছে সেই কাগজও তোমরা আমাদের কাছ থেকে পেয়েছো। তাতেও তোমরা সন্তুষ্ট না, হায়!!
