অর্পির ভীষণ মন খারাপ। ঈদের আর মাত্র একদিন বাকি। অথচ ভাইয়া এবার ঈদে আসতে পারবে কিনা ঠিক নেই। ট্রেনে, বাসে সব জায়গাতেই নাকি টিকিটের লাইনে খুব ভিড়। ব্যস্ত ঢাকা শহর থেকে দুদিনের জন্য একটু শান্তির খোঁজে সবাই ঈদের ছুটিতে গ্রামের বাড়িতে ফিরে আসতে চায়। দীর্ঘ দুই দিন ভাইয়া কমলাপুর রেলওয়ে ষ্টেশনে টিকিটের লাইনে দাঁড়িয়ে থেকেও শেষে টিকিট না পেয়ে ফিরে এসেছে। তারপর বাস কাউন্টারে গিয়েও যখন দেখেছে টিকিট পাওয়ার সম্ভবনা নেই, তখন ভাইয়া বাড়িতে ফোন করে জানিয়েছে এবার আর তার ঈদে গ্রামে আসা হচ্ছে না।
যার জন্য অর্পির মনটা খুব খারাপ। এর পেছনে অবশ্য আরও একটা কারণ রয়েছে। এবারের ঈদে ভাইয়া নাকি তার জন্য লাল টকটকে, খুব সুন্দর একটা জামা কিনেছে। যে জামা পরলে নাকি তাকে একদম লাল পরীর মতন লাগবে। একথা শুনে অর্পি খুব খুশি হয়েছিল। ভাইয়া ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়ালেখা করে। টিউশনি করে অনেক কষ্ট করে সে নিজের খরচ চালায়। এরপরও ভাইয়া প্রতি ঈদে সেখান থেকে টাকা জমিয়ে তার জন্য নতুন জামা কিনে নিয়ে আসে। এবারের জামাটা নাকি অন্যবারের থেকে আরও বেশি সুন্দর হয়েছে। যেটা শুনে অর্পির বন্ধুরা তার লাল জামা দেখতে ঈদের দিন আসবে বলেছে। কিন্তু যেখানে ভাইয়াই আসতে পারবে না, সেখানে লাল জামা কিভাবে দেখাবে সে তার বন্ধুদের!
রাত পেরিয়ে ভোর হলো। আজ ঈদের দিন। সবাই ঈদের নামাজে যাওয়ার জন্য তৈরী হচ্ছে। অর্পি মনমরা হয়ে বাড়ির বারান্দায় বসে আছে। এবার আর তার ঈদে ভাইয়ার নিয়ে আসা নতুন লাল জামা পরে ঘুরতে যাওয়া হবে না। এমন সময় হঠাৎই একজন খুব হাঁপাতে হাঁপাতে তার সামনে এসে দাঁড়ালো। মুখ তুলে দেখার পর অবাক হয়ে গেল সে। আরে, এতো তার ভাইয়া এসেছে। এক লাফে উঠে দাঁড়িয়ে সে ভাইয়াকে জড়িয়ে ধরলো। খুশিতে আত্মহারা হয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করলো- ভাইয়া, তুমি না এবার আসতে পারবে না বলেছিলে? ভাইয়া উত্তর দিল, আর বলিস না বোন। যখন আমি টিকিট না পেয়ে খুব মন খারাপ করে বসে আছি। তখন দেখি কয়েকজন মিলে বাসের মালিকের কাছে গিয়ে খুব অনুরোধ করতে শুরু করেছে যে তাদের জন্য কোন ব্যবস্থা করা যায় কিনা। আমিও তাদের সাথে যোগ দিয়ে অনেক অনুরোধ করার পর মালিক ভদ্রলোকের মন নরম হলো। তিনি শর্ত দিয়েছিলেন যদি আমরা কমপক্ষে ত্রিশ জন মানুষের ব্যবস্থা করতে পারি, তবে তিনি আমাদের বাড়ি আসার জন্য স্পেশাল একটা ট্রিপের ব্যবস্থা করে দিবেন। খুব সহজেই আমরা তার শর্ত পূরণ করতে পারায় আজ মাঝরাতে বাস মালিকের কথামত সেই স্পেশাল ট্রিপে করে অবশেষে বাড়ি আসতে পারলাম। এরপর ব্যাগ খুলে ভাইয়া অর্পির হাতে একটা টকটকে লাল রঙ্গের জামা দিয়ে বললো, এই নে তোর ঈদের নতুন লাল জামা। জলদি জামাটা পরে আয়, আর আমি নামাজে যাওয়ার জন্য তৈরী হয়ে আসছি। এরপর নতুন জামা পরে কিন্তু আমাকে সালাম করতে হবে বলে দিচ্ছি।
এবার আর অর্পির মনেতে খুশি ধরছে না। সে এক ছুটে সবাইকে জানাতে গেল যে তার ভাইয়া চলে এসেছে। আর কিছুক্ষণ পর ভেতরের ঘর থেকে ভাইয়ার কথা মত একটা সুন্দর লাল টকটকে জামা পরা লাল পরী বেরিয়ে এলো।
